Brasilia Summit hails Iraq’s emerging democracy

The Arab-Latin Summit Conference opened in Brasilia on 10 May with the participation of 21 Arab countries and 12 Latin American countries. The Final Declaration of the Arab and Latin American countries issued on May 11 stressed the importance of respecting the unity and independence of Iraq, non-intervention in its internal affairs, respecting the will of Iraqi people and their choices in determining their future as expressed in the recent general elections; which is considered as a great achievement on the way to a safe transfer of power to establish a democratic and federal system. The Declaration confirmed the support of the transitional government, and urged the international community to support it .The Declaration also condemned the terrorist acts targeting civilians, infrastructure of the country and the democratic process in Iraq.
