LFIQ and CFIQ team up to discuss parliamentary procedures with Iraqi MPs

Several Chairs and Deputy Chairs of committees in the Council of
Representatives of the Parliament of Iraq have been in London to study the British parliamentary and political system. As part of this LFIQ and Conservative Friends of Iraq jointly hosted a session with them to discuss how the UK Parliament organises oversight of ministers. Meg Munn MP and Tony Baldry MP, of LFIQ and CFIQ respectively answered questions.

This is just the sort of thing that LFIQ has been advocating for some time. The Iraqi parliamentarians are keen to learn about how foreign parliaments conduct themselves to see what lessons can be drawn as they develop their own institutions and practices.

Once again, we appeal to all organisations with the capacity to help to come forward to assist.

It’s true that countries such as Britain have had many years in which to deepen the culture of democracy – and are still learning – but that does not mean that the Iraqi parliament and other institutions have to start entirely from scratch but can import whatever lessons and customs they feel suits their own needs.

Director LFIQ
